◆ Pendulum ball-
This is a class exercise we did together by creating key frames for the ball to move from left to the right. The tail is facing straight down to be starting with and as it swings to the other side, the tail should follow the ball and also swings from it’s left to it’s right. This is the animation principle of Overlapping. And also Exaggeration when we moved the tail handles to exaggerate the arc and curve. I also added 3-4 breakdown frames to adjust the arc of the tail to make them favour the direction the ball is moving to, like the drawings above.
To make the ball continue to swing and gradually stops at the center, I added some more key frames after the first pendulum of the ball to make the tail gradually stops swinging with the ball.
Then I added breakdown frames between the first few key frames to make it seem natural. I also kept pushing the curve of the tail out more when the ball is changing directions according to the principle Exaggeration.

A test of a dead weighted tail moving upwards with the ball. When animating in Maya, if there is a new key frame then the handles should be placed at where the previous handles were in the previous key frame.

DETAILED DESIGN OF THE STAIRCASE-
After the formative assessment with my tutor Dan, he pointed out that I could make the staircase a bit more interesting, probably by making each step different and doing something instead of being still. Therefore I came up with this design with the first step a moving platform, it will be moving horizontally and will be the first step the ball is going to land. Second step is going to be a seesaw platform, it will be shifting towards the ground when the ball lands on it. The ball will then jump around on this step trying to balance itself. Third step is going to be a rotating platform, it will be rotating 360 degrees around the pole. The forth one which is also the last step the ball is going to land on, is a flapping platform. It will flap downwards as soon as the ball lands on it. And the animation will be finished when the ball jumps down from the forth step.
